Digital Storytelling with iMovie 10.1

...Things are getting spooky around here at Teq!  In preparation for Halloween, the PD team has prepared an exciting session that will discuss how teachers and students can utilize iMovie 10.1 to demonstrate creativity and convey elements of effective storytelling. We’ll point out useful updates and fantastic features including Trailer Templates, Storyboards, and Outlines that will help transform the ordinary classroom into an innovative film studio!  See you there in your scary-wear!

Introduction to Digital Storytelling

In this course, learn about the benefits of using digital storytelling in your classroom to encourage student creativity and learn about a new type of product students can plan and create. We will discuss some best practices and things to consider when starting a digital storytelling project in your classroom, with various grade levels.

(Please note, this is an introductory course and will not focus on specific products for creating a digital story.  These courses are separate and can be located in the Course Library)

Digital Storytelling with Windows Movie Maker

Digital tools allow us to take the age-old practice of storytelling and engage our students with text, narration, images, and music. Through the use of the interactive whiteboard, well explore how teachers are effectively building digital storytelling into their instruction, as well as how both software and online resources make this a creative learning experience. This session will focus on Windows MovieMaker.

Choose Your Own Adventure Storytelling

Choose Your Own Adventure stories are an exciting alternative to normal stories because they allow the student total control--the reader can control the tale!Join us as we explore how to use this popular format for children's books to teach ELA standards such as narrative, drafting and text structure in new ways. This activity will have students working in groups, creating storyboards, scripting out a multi-ending story and then publishing their story on one of multiple platforms.Learn how we can incorporate crucial literacy skills and pair it with creative uses of technology now available.

With digital tools at our fingertips, we can create and tell our stories instantly including personal narratives, explanations of a process, and retelling of events from another point of view. When teachers build digital storytelling into their instruction, students are engaged in a creative learning experience that is strongly connected with reading, writing, and speaking across the curriculum. In this course, well explore the digital tools that make it easy to get started. This session will use Powtoon.
